“Excellence is a habit,” said Aristotle. I would like to call it a mindset. A Mindset of Excellence.
What is a Mindset of Excellence?
A mindset of excellence is the result of thinking patterns that focus on excellence. When people think about excellence, their choices and repeated actions will lead to both personal and organisational excellence.
Organisational excellence can only come from people of excellence at all levels.
There is no point in the CEO and the C-suite and top managers and executives talking about excellence or indeed being people of excellence, with awards and accolades to their names.
Everyone from the minor employees to the CEO should cultivate a Mindset of Excellence.
Can that be done?
Of course. It takes a lot of effort and commitment, beyond just mentioning excellence in the annual report or website to make your organisation an Abode of Excellence.
What needs to be done is to get everyone on the same page by cultivating a Mindset of Excellence within your organisation.
Abode of Excellence
Abode of Excellence, or “විශිෂ්ටාගාරය” is a place where people with a Mindset of Excellence reside, or work. It is a place where every choice and action leads towards organisational or personal excellence. Excellence in customer service can only truly take wings from such fertile foundations.
Abode of Excellence is also a concept for a workshop my late father, Nihal Dissanayake, developed while he was at the Athwela Business Journal, while focusing on attitude development of individuals. While we were primarily targeting small and medium enterprises then, today, it seems to me that Abode of Excellence is a great fit for organisations at all levels.
